| Accident |
an interruption of the regular work routine coinciding with unusual circumstances, such as a slip, trip, or fall, resulting in injury.

pertaining to appeals as in court cases, as an attorney who petitions a higher court.

| Contingency Fee |
a charge for services payable only in the event of a successful or satisfactory outcome of the case.

| Contributory Negligence |
the defendant may allege that a plaintiff was negligent and contributed to his injuries due to that negligence.

damages include your pain and suffering, mental and physical and your general disability, lost earnings, medical bills, and any other out-of-pocket losses.

the person who is being sued.

| Disburse |
to pay out.

| Discharge |
to acquit completely, as to release the defendant. To set aside or annul, as to dismiss a court order.

the person who is filing the lawsuit.

| Power of Attorney |
a legal document authorizing a person, who you choose, to act on your behalf and in your place should you become physically and/or mentally incapacitated. The person you choose can do anything that you would have done if you were not incapacitated.

to take back, withdraw, or cancel.

| Settlement |
an arrangement, adjustment, or other understanding reached, as in legal and financial or business proceedings.

| Statute of Limitations |
the period of time in which an individual must file suit. If suit is not filed within the time allowed, the defendant may ask the Court to dismiss the lawsuit as not being timely filed. No two states have the same rules.

| Testamentary Trust |
a document issued by a probate court or officer informing an executor of a will of his or her appointment and empowering the executor to discharge the appointed responsibilities.

| Trust |
a legal title to property held by one party for the benefit of another.
|
| Trustee |
a person who hold legal title to property in order to administer it for another.
|
| Verdict |
when a jury in a trial decides on a judgment in a matter submitted to them for their decision. Can be any articulate conclusion, judgment, or opinion.
